The Follow-Up Question
If you had the abilities of your chosen character in the real world (or maybe technology if your doing the TV sci-fi thing), what would you do with them? How would you deal with the way people would actually react to you (i.e. the fear, idol worship, governments trying to dissect you)?

I would certainly do the same thing the Doctor does: that is, go sightseeing and end up having to save the world. Again.
I also just noticed what you called the link to my blog. Nice. :o)
I've given a lot of thought over the last few months as to what I would do in the real world if I were a superhero. If a person only had limited powers (e.g. Spider-Man or most other Marvel heroes) than fighting crime is about all that you could do. But what if you had god-like power like Superman or Green Lantern? You could destroy all of the world's weapons, depose corrupt governments, or dispose of nuclear waste by tossing it into the Sun. How could you properly exercise that power while respecting the ability of human beings to make their own choices?
I think that if I were Green Lantern in the real world I'd use my power and celebrity status to try and expose all the dirty secrets governments and criminals try to keep hidden. I'd attempt to educate and empower the people of the world. I'd also offer to help countries that asked for my assistance with disaster relief or infrastructure building, as well as activities that advance the human condition, like space travel or archaeology.
I find it a very interesting burden, to feel like you have the power to single-handedly change the world, and know that you shouldn't.
Bee: I aim to please.
